4th Freight and Logistics Taskforce Meeting

Fostering the modal shift focusing on technological bottlenecks.

Identify a list of a maximum of 10 technological bottlenecks likely to be addressed by ERCI members and potentially financed by the Green Deal, Horizon Europe, or the new version of Shift2rail. We will focus on niche solutions.

October 29th, 14:00 CET – Teams Meeting

Fostering the modal shift focusing on technological bottlenecks.

Identify a list of a maximum of 10 technological bottlenecks likely to be addressed by ERCI members and potentially financed by the Green Deal, Horizon Europe, or the new version of Shift2rail focusing on niche solutions.

Steps to be undertaken

  • Desk research on past EU projects aiming at fostering modal shift to rail. The aim is to identify why it does not leverage. For this, I approached the ETP-Alice to provide information, you can see their feedback in the annexed mail (other options to be discussed).
  • Based on the ALICE-S2R position paper (see annex), we will establish a long list of technology topics that haven’t been addressed so far (all the ERCI members through the clusters involved in the task force)
  • Analyzing the Green Deal calls (deadline 26TH of January 2021) and other potential calls (HE or S2R) likely to finance potential projects.
  • Out of the long list, either the Taskforce or the ERCI members make a shortlist (maximum 5) (to be discussed with Dirk)
  • With this shortlist, a survey will be established and each ERCI member will be asked to survey with 5 to 10 of their industrial members to validate the list
  • Once the selection is done, we investigate the potential of setting up consortia to address these issues.
